Sexuality, Non-monogamy
|
My work focuses on sexuality and relationships, including ethical non-monogamy, sexual concerns, and kink-related issues. I also help many men who struggle with their relationship to sexual imagery (sometimes labeled porn addiction), although I don’t believe in labels.
When you walk into my office, I want you to feel safe exploring any confusing sexual or relational questions. My approach is never one-size-fits-all. Instead, I tailor our work to the life you want to lead. Maybe you’re polyamorous, in open relationships, or mono in a poly relationship. Perhaps you struggle with porn use or other sexual behaviors that feel out of control. Or, you might want to talk about something completely different. Whatever it is, I’m here to listen. I continually integrate new approaches into my practice and view social justice as a central component in all therapy. Most prominently, I use relational therapy and positive psychotherapy. In this kind of work, we pay particular attention to your strengths, hopes, and dreams. Together, we harness what you know from your past and present relationships to help you heal and grow. Understanding your relationships is a critical component in the process of change. I have a Master of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) from the University of Pennsylvania, where my capstone led to a $3.5 million grant from the NIH and a five-year study. At Columbia University, I received a Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling and a Master of Arts in Psychological Counseling. I also received an advanced certificate from Columbia in LGBTQ+ and polyam/open therapy, and I have an advanced certificate in REBT (a type of CBT) from the Albert Ellis Institute. As an adjunct faculty at Touro University, I have taught classes on treating trauma, advanced social work practice, and social justice issues. |
